Westports Malaysia, one of the major port operators in Southeast Asia, has improved their cargo handling operations with a new Kalmar Eco Reachstacker. Westports is working to improve productivity and sustainability by reducing fuel consumption and lowering emissions. They chose the new Eco Reachstacker for its reliability, performance and life cycle cost.

“We are committed to sustainable development and are continuously researching innovative ways to help safeguard the environment, and it is crucial that our new equipment acquisitions are linked with these goals,” explains Westports CEO Eddie Lee. “The new Kalmar Eco Reachstacker will play a vital role in boosting our environmental and operational performance.”

Save fuel costs

Westports manages harbour facilities at Port Klang, the main gateway by sea into Malaysia. The company employs more than 5,000 people and is acknowledged worldwide for its service quality as well as its commitment to sustainable development. Westports is a longtime Kalmar customer and currently uses 40 Kalmar terminal tractors, 7 reachstackers and 1 empty stacker.

The Kalmar Eco Reachstacker fits Westports’ needs perfectly. It can reduce fuel consumption by up to 40% compared to old equipment, and by up to 25% compared to more recent equipment. It matches the productivity levels of machines with larger engines while simultaneously cutting fuel costs and emissions.

Kalmar offers a Fuel Saving Guarantee with each of its Eco Reachstackers so customers achieve greater financial predictability. Kalmar Fuel Savings is based on an agreed set of metrics for cargo handling and provides complete control over fuel costs. It also includes driver training and connection to Kalmar Insight. Westports has chosen training for maintenance specialists and equipment operators as well as technical inspection and monitoring services.

Improve driver experience

Kalmar Insight is a cloud-based performance management tool for cargo handlers like Westports Malaysia. It collects data from multiple sources and provides actionable information via a user-friendly dashboard. The data is accessed via desktop, notebook or mobile devices. Westports Malaysia can use Kalmar Insight to see their real-time operations and historical activity. They can change their view from one machine or one operator all the way up to their fleet of connected devices.

Westports’ drivers will enjoy an enhanced driving experience in their new Kalmar Eco Reachstacker. They will feel more in control with smoother acceleration and safer with less cabin noise and emissions. The Eco Reachstacker has more responsive braking and steering systems and improved joystick control to improve the working environment and worker safety.

“We have created a stable and mutually beneficial working relationship with Westports, who value our equipment solutions for their robustness and reliability,” says Dinesh Nair, Country Director of Kalmar Malaysia. “Their faith in the potential of our solutions to deliver in the long-run has been bolstered by the exceptional work of our local after-sales staff in Malaysia. We look forward to continuing to support their efforts to improve their operations’ sustainability and productivity.”
